Hypermedia educational program Halogen chemistry and its use in chemistry education of gifted pupils
Teplý, Pavel
In my dissertation, I dealt with the problem of education of gifted pupils in chemistry. I particularly focused at a detailed search in this scientific field, problems identification and suggesting as well as realisation of possible solutions. All the particular aims specif ied in the introduction were gradually accomplished. A survey among high school chemistry teachers (in the form of questionnaires) showed that there neither is a sufficient attention paid to the gifted pupils education in the Czech Republic, nor the prospective teachers are systematically prepared for this role. There are also consequent problems with gifted pupils curriculum differentiation, which most teachers consider to be more suitable for the gifted pupils education than a (lepší asi their?) segregation and separate education. Teachers lack a sufficient amount of enough information about curriculum differentiation (individual approach) and educational software, suitable and avaiable for the education of gifted pupils. On the basis of this survey, reserch results and my own experience in this field, I designed and created a hypermedia teaching aid as a XHTML program. The main theme was "Halogen chemistry", because of its universal relevance. The main purpose of this ...
The Education of Athletically Gifted Students
Orlová, Jana ; Kasíková, Hana (advisor) ; Valenta, Josef (referee)
My thesis focuses on the subject of 'education of athletically talented students' on a theoretical and empirical level. The theoretical part describes 'talent' on a general basis followed by a specific description of a 'sporting talent'. It considers the conditions of education of talented students without a particular focus and subsequently discusses the subject of school education of athletically talented students. It introduces the specific aspects of an athlete as a pupil, the factors that influence his/her educational path and the problem of 'dual career'. It also characterizes the conditions of education of athletes in Europe and the system of education in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part is the resource for conducting the empirical part, where the results show how athletes themselves describe and evaluate the conditions of school education. The reaserch of investigated topic whilst using thorough interviews concludes the way athletes perceive this issue.

(in English) The present thesis explores the issue of teaching heritage language learners and returnee students in English as a foreign language (EFL) classes in Czech secondary schools. The aim of the thesis is to examine the experiences of heritage language learners and returnees in the EFL classroom, their strengths and weaknesses in English, their attitude towards English language learning in terms of potential anxiety and motivation, as well as heritage language learners' wishes in relation to language instruction. These issues are investigated from the perspective of the students themselves. The theoretical part reviews the relevant literature on heritage language acquisition and teaching, and on the effects of experience abroad on language acquisition. Moreover, it is complemented by discussions of differentiated instruction and language education for the gifted, two areas which can prove helpful in terms of finding suitable solutions to the problems encountered by the target population in foreign language classes. The empirical part is qualitative and consists of the analysis of in-depth semi-structured interviews with three participants, gymnázium students from Prague. Insights are provided about the interconnectedness of the students' life experiences, their general beliefs about language...
